Easily one of my favourite cuts from Louise Golbey’s “Novel”. Just like the title of the song it is a very “Comfortable” track. The vocal, keys and beat just put you at ease and into relax mode. The video is very cute and lovely perfectly depicting the relationship described in the tune. Quality work from Louise but really should we expect anything less?
Catch her opening for EnVouge on Tuesday and if you haven’t already check out the album here.
This is beautiful. Another wonderfully shot session from Mahogany getting an equally wonderful and perfectly intimate performance from the quite excellent Mahalia. She sounds lovely and the acoustic setting blurs the lines between folk and soul. I love the song content too which again is a perfect fit for the video. Mahalia continues to shine brighter and brighter!
Music is Remedy came to the public eye late August 2006 in a bar in Camden formerly known as the OH Bar with our first ever live event Remedy. Since then many artists graced the stage at our events. Some have pushed on and carved out varying levels of success wowing crowds around the country some even achieving world-wide success, whilst others have settled down and left their performing days behind them.
With the return of the original Remedy night in April we decided to sit down with some of the performers who were a big part of the Remedy family we created in the early days and talk to them about their art and journey. Looking at how working the live circuit was so important and how it helped them hone their craft and drive their passions.
We picked different performers that represent the different areas that Music is Remedy showcase… Hip Hop Soul Spoken Word and of course live music. So we have the poet, the singer, the rapper and the musician.
Over the next 4 weeks we will be releasing a different episode every Thursday as we count down to the return of the Remedy night on April 7th @ Stereo 92. Starting on Thursday March 3rd! It’s a project I’m really excited to share with everyone. It’s honest, fun, from the heart and shows all those aspiring to be in the game what it’s all about. Here is a preview of what to expect.
Big shout out to KBD who were a pleasure to work with on this project. Providing a fabtatsic professional service if you are looking for visual work. Subscribe to KBD to see the videos first.
Also Stereo 92 where we shot the videos and where we host not only the music is Remedy Open Mic on the 2nd Wednesday of the month but also the new Remedy night. Great food and and an amazing live experience.
The first episode drops Thursday March 3rd 2016
This tune right here is a problem!!! Vanessa White arguably the lead vocalist of the pop quintet The Saturdays (Guilty Pleasure standard) drop this slice of RnB goodness from her debut solo EP Chapter One. Teaming up with Wretch 32 to brilliant effect this is a throwback to the slick mid 90s RnB Soul flavas many of us grew up with. This tune is BAAAUUUUUUDDD!!! Hoping it gets the attention it deserves such a tune!
Short sweet and serious. Wicked tune and performance from Jade Bird. My engineer put me onto her and she is quite simply superb. I love her vocal a real urgency and soft fierceness to it whilst delivering her lyrics ever so slightly with the flow of an MC. This is brilliant no doubt that this is someone you will be seeing and hearing more of in the future.
Shout outs to TeaFilm Sessions for capturing the goodness.
I don’t know what the deal is with this tune but its got his name on it so i’m gonna assume it’s his baby and post it because we all need this in our life. The 70s sunshine feel good sounds that are ooozzzing out of every second, sample, beat and horn line on this make you wanna dance and wash away those February winter blues. Yes Eric Lau YES!!!
Here are more reasons to love the art and craft of Hollie McNish. Chosen by the Poetry Society as part of their Page Fright project, which records spoken word artists performing their own work alongside performances of canonical page poetry. Hollie performs one of her own pieces as well as reading a poem and creating a response to it. If you follow this blog then you know I post her poetry regularly which is why I’ve chosen to feature her interview below as it shows the meaning, intelligence and emotion behind her work. Seeing that side to her only adds power to her performance and art.
Nice to see Raleigh Ritchie getting some live lounge love from the legend that is Trevor Nelson. He delivers as always a quality performance of one of his biggest tunes to date Bloodsport. The band sound quality and it always sounds and looks like Raleigh is putting 500% of his energy and strength into his vocal which as well as enhancing the performance only makes you like him more.
Album is out this week! If you can’t wait pre-order here and get some of the tracks early.
A piece of acoustic gorgeousness from Rachel Huggins with the track “Since You’ve Been Gone”. A lovely vocal performance delivered by Rachel full of soul, pain and elements of folk are definitely evident throughout. And there are some amazing BV lines in there too hilighting the vocal quality even more.
With every listen I like this track more and more. Raheem Bakare drops some fresh new music. Sounding pretty fresh on an Alt RnB tip which really is as good as anything i’ve heard from the other side of the Atlantic. Further evidence of just how good the level of talent is on these shores. He might not like me saying it but there are moments where I feel like i’m listening to a new Miguel track which is testament to his Vocal ability and the quality of the production. Great range and some awesome runs here too. All in all a really strong much wanted return from Raheem. More of the same please.
